Also known as enlightment, Nirvana is the highest state one can attain. The Buddha said of his enlightenment, “Ignorance was destroyed; knowledge arose; darkness was destroyed; light arose —as happens in one who is heedful, ardent, and resolute.”
Enlightenment means to become a Buddha – the pinnacle of human development and potential – and it is the ultimate aim in Buddhism. It is something that every single being on earth has the potential to achieve.
